Are you too BIG or too SMALL to have a breach?

Are you too BIG or too SMALL to have a breach?

Regardless of whether or not you are a big company or a small company, you can still be subjected to a breach.  Today’s hackers are professionals.  Hackers have one thing in mind, “YOU”, not you as a person, but you, who has information that will benefit only “THEM”.

Hackers are looking to gain access to your computer system whether you are a big company or a small company.

USA Today stated, “that Anthem’s database had records for approximately 80 million people,” and they were hacked.

Technology today can be a gift or a curse.  On one hand we are able to have vital information at our fingertips.  On the other hand we need to take great action to protect our computer systems.  Hackers today are looking to obtain credit card information, debit card information, DOB’s and Social Security numbers.  The cost for hackers to have this information cost nothing, but it will cost your company almost everything.  Companies involved in a breach will need to provide protection to their clientele and it will cost the company to install and train or re-train the employees to notice it the systems are being hacked.

The fact of the matter is that even though today we need to implement an EMR/EHR system, breaches did not happen as often when medical records were paper.  Paper records needed to have someone hands on to obtain personal information of someone, today, all you need is a professional hacker to be behind the scene and be able to obtain, copy and use the information.  If a breach happened with a paper record the regulations did not require the physician to respond in the way we need to now.  In todays world, we need to notify the individual(s), and fill out reports and notify Health and Human Services, and in some cases notify the media.   It just goes to show that in today’s world, hackers are becoming more and more sly in order to hack your system, this means no matter how BIG or SMALL your company is you need to be more and more protected.
